| Biography: | Walter Chavez graduated from KEAN University in 2001 with a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy. Walter is registered by the NJ State Board of Occupational Therapy. Upon graduation, Walter worked for a few years in the acute care and physical dysfunction setting where he treated a variety of neurological conditions including CVA's (strokes), TBI (Traumatic Brain Injuries), Burn Patients, Orthopedics, and Cardiac Rehabilitation. Over the course of his career, Walter has worked in multiple settings including home-based, center-based, schools and clinics including: The NJ Early Intervention System, UMDNJ, St Barnabas Hospital and Children's Specialized Hospital and provided school based services for the Westfield Board of Education. In February 2007, Walter Chavez and his wife Jenner Chavez MA LPC formed Therapy Tree LLC, a family owned; pediatric special needs private practice in Westfield NJ. Walter has worked extensively with children with various developmental, behavioral and neurological challenges; focusing on sensory integration difficulties directly affecting fine-motor, visual perception/motor and self-help skills. Walter participates in advanced training through professional seminars and educational programs to enhance his knowledge and clinical reasoning skills on an advanced level. Each of these experiences is considered critical to providing children with optimal intervention and support. He has a specialty certification in the Therapeutic Listening Program and is a Level 1 Certified Hand Writing Without Tears Specialist. |
