| Biography: | "For the past thirteen years, I have spent most of my time with children, not as a professional, but as a parent. I have started baby groups, co-oped in nursery school, substituted, volunteered, run after school clubs and read everything I could find about child development to help me on my way. All of this was a departure for me, as I had planned on pursuing an academic path after completing my master's degree in Political Philosophy at Glasgow University in Scotland, but sometimes motherhood sends you in a different direction. My son did not transition well into nursery school: he was a very frustrated little boy. As a highly verbal child who loved everything to do with words, he was desperate to express himself by drawing and writing, but could not. That is when I became interested in Handwriting Without Tears. I took the Handwriting Without Tears courses and began working on pre-writing skills at home with my son. This year, I became certified and started tutoring, with guidance from OTR Denise Klanacsky. I now have Saturday hours at Denise Klanacsky's office in Bethesda. I tutor children of all ages and would be happy to work with local nursery schools. For older children, I combine handwriting instruction with creative writing. I also offer evaluations and training to parents who would prefer to tutor their own children at home. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions." |
