| Biography: | Alicia Harris MS, OTR/L is the CEO and lead occupational therapist at Away We Go Pediatric Therapy, LLC. Alicia graduated from Brenau University with a Master's degree in occupational therapy in 2005. During her graduate year she studied the interactions of children with autism and a multitude of therapeutic approaches including sensory integration, Floortime/DIR, and Applied Behavioral Analysis/ABA. She has ten years of experience in private clinic and school based occupational therapy and has worked with a variety of diagnoses. Alicia has worked closely with ABA therapist and has spent much time studying the application of sensory integration in the school and home settings. Years of working with speech therapists have helped her to incorporate speech therapy goals and utilize AAC devices into therapy sessions. As a private therapist Alicia has focused on improved self care skills to include dressing, toilet training, tying shoes, functional application of time/calendar skills, money earning and management skills, leisure development and more. Continuing education opportunities include Handwriting Without Tears, Brain Gym, and How does your Engine Run? She has learned over 100 signs for use in pediatric practice, has taken courses on the application of technology/tablets therapeutically, and enjoys reading and implementing strategies to help picky eaters try new foods. Alicia enjoys taking neurological classes and courses regarding sensory processing. After extensive study, Alicia has earned certification in Handwriting Without Tears. This demonstrates mastery level education in this multi-sensory approach to handwriting education and evaluation. She has taken courses for pre-writing skills, young writers, children learning cursive, and typing. She is also certified to evaluate handwriting skills using The Print Tool. Alicia has been married for eleven years to her amazing husband Chris. They have two beautiful children- Montgomery (5) and Emilia (3). |
